Can someon please help

Post by hosamhelal » 2006-06-28 16:53

Hi, i am trying to set up a hub; i used Ynhub; no errors, followed the instructions, and I think it is done, but now how do i access my hub from DC++?

I went to Hublists in ynhub and the one that registered successfuly was dreamland.gotdns.org so i uploaded the list in DC++ but I cannot see the hub i set up?

What am I missing/forgetting?

I would appreciate the help, thanks!

Use a dynamic DNS service such as www.no-ip.com

Aye use the no-ip address thing as your hub address, therefore it wont matter if your IP changes.

Their website should provide some guidance. You basically need to setup your account on their website, create an address/host, then download and run their little program all the time. You put the address you made in the hub address field in your hubsoft. Do some fiddling, it's a long time since I had to setup this program from scratch. Yes, it's free.

What is "it"? I can't read your mind I'm afraid. Please thoroughly explain the problem you have, and I'll try to help.

the no-ip, every time i reconnect, it updates my IP

by updating my IP, it changes the DNS, and by changing the DNS, the problem is not solved. Because i am trying to make a non-changing DNS or address for my hub

thnks

What does it matter that the IP is changing? As long as e.g. mycoolhub.no-ip.com points to your machine, people can always access it.

Your DNS name isn't changing. The IP that it resolves to is.

If you're confused about terminology, as long as you're running the updater, and telling users to connect to the no-ip address, things should be working properly. If they're not, describe what is going wrong.

no you dont on the page there is a download for a program on it that you download to your computer called DUC 2.0 or something like that, once you download it just install and run it, it will autoupdate your ip for you and send the info to the web site for you, check in the downloads section of www.no-ip.com it should be in there

But since he's not using a no-ip.com DNS, he might want to use one of the tools that are available from http://www.dyndns.org , instead.

DirectUpdate is not a freeware program. It's unnecessary to encourage the use of the programs that cost money when there are free alternatives.

I know its not free, I mentioned it because its a good investment for hosting web sites as well along with streaming media, all of which I personaly make money off of.....but since you only want to download files I can see his point.....the choice is up to you
