Hey I run a hub on the university network.
I have ran one for over two years now, and now their are rumours going around that the IT department and the management want to put an end to DC in the next three weeks.
The reasoning they give is that they have received legal advice, and that they are advised to shut it down or risk possible future lawsuits.
But is the acual running of ynhub illegal? I cant find any evidence of any court cases on the internet?
Can someone please advise me?
HELP, can they close my hub down?

if your university is affraid of the threats of those that want to close down DC hubs then it's their right to take your hub down.
although it may be in fact legal in your country the authority's would rather see all DC hubs closed...

You can send a message around the world in 1/7 of a second; yet it may take several years to move a simple idea through a 1/4 inch of human skull.
I would agree that they will shut you down under the contract of you not being allowed to run a server. Fortunately for me my university hasn’t put that in their contract. If yours hasn’t stated it and they try to shut you down then you might be able to argue that they are in breech of the contract (though they will probably just change it so make sure you look for something like this may changed at any time without notice). You could also plead and beg with them to keep it running or shift it underground.
