Adding new loseless file extensions to the music file search

Post by jaromir » 2006-01-11 02:11

Hi,
may you add please this file types to the file searching - Audio

.ape - loseless Monkey's audio
.flac (.fla) - loseless Flac
.wv - loseless Wavpack
.mpc - good packer with excelent sound quality

(now Is searched only .mp3 and several other formats. And I mean, that implemented .wav search is precedent for the implementation of this loseless formats too)

?
I requested this featur In the StrongDC forum, but he forward me to this forum and telled me, that this feature must be implemented to the main DC firstly...

THX for the quick implementation, this change will very help me.

Sidenote: .mpc is lossy, and there is also .shn (a. k. a. Shorten) as lossless and a couple more (but they are not so popular).

I think I picked .flac over .ape and .shn because it's free, not merely open. Anything I get in the other two formats, I convert to .flac using Foobar.

A quick implementation will only help if everyone upgrades to that version quickly as well; extensions map to types on the remote end, not on your end.

You should still add .mpc, however, if you get the time. And since foobar developers have dropped official ape support due to stability issues/lack of development on the original lib, that can be safely omitted.
On the other hand foo_shn is coming along nicely.

personally I'm using .ape for coding all lose-less audio, so main reason for this my post Is implementing .ape to the audio search, and If will be .mpc implemented too I will be very happy

Sorry for offing this topic to no end, but decoding FLAC is more resource-friendly (based on my personal experience).

Only bulshits. I need implement It, I don't post this note to reading this bulshits and stupid thread in the your link (Is "very" funny, that you will not implement REGULAR!!! formats, because It consume some CPU power :( (+-1-2% for 0.5sec))

.ape, .flac, .wv and .mpc Is good and well-known formats, this formats using many people now and will be good, If will be this format supported in the main DC application

main reason why use loseless compressors Is to save disc space, If not we may use .WAV. And APE really kick-ass in the compression. I don't know If Is truth, that APE consume some more CPU or memory space (I don't test It) instead of the others. Only importand thing for me, Is that "normal" compression In the APE Is better than .wv, .flac and other compression, I testes It... (and that the playing on the my old 1GHz Celeron in the WinAmp consume little 0-2% of the CPU and 2-5MB of the RAM, I can't imagine application, which will consume less of the resources).

You really think that kind of language will raise the chance of your request being implemented? Bulshits.

Why do you even need the format to be included? Use 'Any' as file type and enter "<search word(s)> ape" (and replace ape with whatever you want as file type).

If you 'need' it to be implemented, add an entry to the bugzilla and post a patch and you'll see if it gets accepted.

Why? because this Is the "clear" way. Sorry, I don't know what Is bugzilla. May you post me the URL to the DC in the BugZilla? THX

Just to note: I converted a lot of APE to FLAC recently due to the dropped support in my player and FLAC with level 8 ain't that big at all compared to APE. It's 1MB bigger when we are at a 7-8 min long track. Moreover, FLAC has ReplayGain support. Sorry for offing agin. :)
