Running a hub from a computer on a router

Which hub software is the best? Where can I find script XXX? Discuss it here...(no, this is not for advertising your hub...)

Running a hub from a computer on a router

Post by Zmyth » 2004-12-18 20:41

I'm trying to run a hub using PotkaX from my home so that me and my friends can DL off each other. I have a DSL connection thats running through a linksys router. What do I need to do to run a hub? Thanks!

Set the linksys to forward whatever port the hub is running on to your local machine. The process is the same as setting DC++ for active mode behind a router.

Once you have the hub running, you need to be very mindful of the fact that you're behind a router. I believe there are Lua scripts for Ptokax that will fix up the IP that you client uses to search and broadcast.

Thanks a lot for the Replies so far. I followed the guide that Xan1977 posted and got the port forwarding set up. I also set up my PtokaX hub up with the hub address being my outside IP. I've tried to have my friends connect but they get "Connection timeout". I had them try connecting in passive mode and in active mode with the IP and port set. I also made sure I didnt have any firewalls enabled. Anyways just wondering if anybody had any other suggestions. Thanks!

Active/passive mode have no effect on connecting to the hub.

Are you sure the portforwarding is correctly (forwared to the correct internal ip)?
If the router has an built in firewall you may have to eighter configure it to allow or disable it.

If you are on Windows XP there will be an internal firewall in windows that you will have to switch off in order for the hub to fucntion properly

If he hasn't figured it out after 12 months, I suspect he doesn't need help now... :)
