Made a new hub, i can log in, others get connection timeout?

Which hub software is the best? Where can I find script XXX? Discuss it here...(no, this is not for advertising your hub...)

Made a new hub, i can log in, others get connection timeout?

Post by daigostud » 2004-10-28 19:46

Hey. I just created a new hub with Direct Connect Hub v1. I went to no-ip.com to create a dynamic ip address and got everything workin the way it should be, and I'm able to log into my hub just fine. Only thing is, anyone who tries to log in gets a connection timeout and can't get in. Why is this?? Is it possibly because I have wildcard checked? Why am I able to log into the hub but other's arent?

anyways, address for the hub is here (to test it out for yourself): oasisshare.no-ip.org

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Code: Select all

C:\>ping oasisshare.no-ip.org

Sorry for posting it in swedish, but basicly you have registerd your internal IP.

You still have your internal ip registerd. The first thing you should do is getting your external ip registerd.

Like I said, I did that. I've actually got both my Internal IP and External IP registered through no-ip.com, and apparently the internal IP worked as opposed to the external not working at all.

Here's the address to my external IP: oasisshare.no-ip.com
Here's the address to my internal IP: oasisshare.no-ip.org

Only the internal one works for me. Are u able to give a little more information? Anyone else know how to fix this?

The internal IP will never work for anyone but you or other computers on your local network. The reason the public IP isn't working for other people is that you have to configure your router to redirect incoming traffic to that local IP. The process is the same as configuring DC++ for active mode.

Makes total sense, but when I go to where I forward ports on my router, it only allows me to forward ports to my internal IP (192.168.0.14), not the external. How do I go about forwarding port 411 to my external IP (67.167.129.68 )?

You need to forward port 411 to your internal IP.

edit: you've done it. Congrats.

blah.. so after getting everything to work perfectly, I closed out DC++ and restarted it to check the start up message i created for the hub, but for some reason I wasn't allowed back into the room whereas all the users were able to still log in with no problems. I get this message when i try to connect..

*** Connection refused by target machine
*** Connecting to oasisshare.no-ip.org...

Interesting when there are users using the hub right now. Any idea as to why this is happening? I had no problem logging in a few hours ago, now I can't get in at all when everyone else can. Any help appreciated!

*** Connecting to oasisshare.no-ip.org...
*** Connection refused by target machine

Why is this? Anyone have an answer?

Here's a follow up to everything before. I'm able to get into my hub now without any issues anymore. It's been online 3 days now and so far I've peaked at 21 users. I'm using Direct Connect Hub v. 1 and haven't had any problems at all so far. Most people are able to log in just fine to the hub (oasisshare.no-ip.com) but then again others are emailing me saying that they're getting their connection refused and getting connection timeouts. I'm very adament about making sure that everyone is able to get into my hub, but with this problem it's making it hard to do that. What is causing this problem and why are some users able to log in just fine and others not? I have port 411 forwarded to my router and everything is set up just the way it should be. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Do you think this has anything to do with having 'wildcard' checked in my no-ip.com settings? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some people getting two different error messages sometimes is very difficult to troubleshoot. If you an come up with any commonality between the users having problems, then maybe someone will think of fixes or at least some changes to try.

I'll tell you one thing, the NMDC hub software is very very old. There are newish 'out of the box' hub software available, like yhub, sdch or ptokax. Links are floating around the stickys somewhere.
