Fakeshare, filelist check-up. Requested in dc++ V 0.403

Post by Protor » 2004-07-26 16:04

Is it possible to get dc++ 0.403 to check for fakeshare filelists as dc++K does with [check filelist] in the user menue ?? Plz solve this problem.

I beleive I can state with absoute certainty that the answer is NO!

DCDM is out there, and the current version is based on .401 I beleive.

DC++'s not being a CDM's not a problem.

(Or should I write something more akin to: 'plz stop asking' to ease understanding?)

DCDM++ solves this problem "nicely."

That DC++ doesn't do duties related to what some operators think they need to do (CDM, fakeshare checking) isn't a problem. That's a niche use of any DC client, and should be (and is) handled by a modified client. (thanks, psf8500)

but, i think, fake-sharing is against the interests of the community
and against the way the DC Network is meant to be.
So this would be nice, and would force fakers, to leave and think about it (maybe).

It already exists, in the form of DCDM++ - a BCDC++ based DC++ mod.

As I said, it's niche feature, and shouldn't be in the same client most users use. I could, for instance, give half a rat's ass about keeping up with the latest "bad" DC++ mods, and adding detection for them. psf8500 and his minions, god bless 'em, love that sort of thing. Let them do the job they like do best, and let us do what we do best - developing a filesharing client for end-users.

lol
okay, i understand, but, if there would be a way to update the detection rules, which psf8500 would prepare ? I mean, if he develops it on, but with the (automatic ?) update for detection rules in his version too, the DC++ users and the psf8500 version users could use it.
i hope u get the point (sorry, my english isn't that good) it would mean, that u only have to implement this update routine, and the routine, that works with the rules.

i don't wanne go on your nerves with this - so if u close this topic, i would shut up :p

The point is... DC++ is not meant to be used for specialized things like fakeshare checking... DC++ is meant to be a stable non-bloated client that others (if they want) can base their mod upon!

I could be wrong, but I think he means that DC++ devs would auto-update his DCDM detection rules.

Yes, that's what i mean.
But i really understand that the basic version (DC++) should be most stable.
Although, i think my Idea isn't that bad :p
