IT IS NOT THE SAME THING!!!!
Can NO ONE read properly!!!???
It is NOT the same as the features that have been discussed OR rejected!
READ WHAT I WROTE!
If you have never SEEN the oDC interface, then you have NO IDEA what I'm talking about!
Stop closing off threads before there has been ANY discussion!!!!

Perhaps a screenshot would help.DeathStalker77 wrote:If you have never SEEN the oDC interface, then you have NO IDEA what I'm talking about!

I would be MORE than happy to oblige with a screen shot, but I don't see any way to post one here. =(
Ok, here's the screenshot. (I dumped it into a .gif from the 3 meg .bmp you sent me)

First off, dunno HOW it got to you as a 3mb BMP - I sent it as a 321k JPG file. Kinda odd.
Look at the layout and compare it to what you see in DC++
It's QUITE different.
You can't see the Uploads in this shot, because they're at the bottom.
SOME people have complained about that positioning, so it was changed to the way it currently is in DC++ around v0.300.
All I'm saying is that there should be the OPTION for people to customize the layout the way they are most comfortable with. I'm sure thare can't be THAT much coding involved. oDC is Open Source so it shouldn't be a big deal to even just drop that whole section of the program into DC++ and make an option for it.
Speaking personally, I don't care how long a file's been downloading (as DC++ currently shows in the STATUS field) only what the speed is and how much time is left.
I also want to be able to have my Uploads separated from my Downloads (and NOT be different Windows!)
Additionally, as you can see, oDC shows what file is WAITING to download from users one is not yet connected to. This is VERY helpful!
I hope this helps to clarify the issues involved

Weird, maybe hotmail decided to get involved more than it should have.First off, dunno HOW it got to you as a 3mb BMP - I sent it as a 321k JPG file. Kinda odd.
It was changed. Why would it be changed back?SOME people have complained about that positioning, so it was changed to the way it currently is in DC++ around v0.300.
I would be really surprised if Arne thought that was a good idea. I think you're asking for something that will never happen. All I'm saying is that there should be the OPTION for people to customize the layout the way they are most comfortable with. Sort by status? Seems to work for me.I also want to be able to have my Uploads separated from my Downloads (and NOT be different Windows!)
I see what you are describing while using DC++ .307.Additionally, as you can see, oDC shows what file is WAITING to download from users one is not yet connected to. This is VERY helpful!

Sure, and many DC++ mods freely take from oDC. Arne, however, requires that programmers send him patches and assign him copyright, so that all of DC++'s code is under one copyright holder (it simplifies many things, including enforcement of coprights).DeathStalker77 wrote:oDC is Open Source so it shouldn't be a big deal to even just drop that whole section of the program into DC++ and make an option for it.
That is a feature that is also in DC++.DeathStalker77 wrote:Additionally, as you can see, oDC shows what file is WAITING to download from users one is not yet connected to. This is VERY helpful!

Sorting bugs? I saw one reported just in the past couple days:Xan1977 wrote:I see what you are describing while using DC++ .307.
[ 918131 ] TransferView sorting
This is older:
[ 874826 ] TypedView's sorting doesn't sort intuitively
It's not an unknown problem, but perhaps I just haven't sufficiently caught arne's attention.

Files Waiting
I don't see that DC++ shows the filenames for connections that are waiting - even when the STATUS just shows Connecting.... or Connection Timeout, oDC still shows what file is waiting to be downloaded.
Additionally, I still don't see that you can separate your downloads from your uploads --
DL
DL
- and down the list -
Connecting ....
Connection Timeout
No Slots Available

Then why not try enlightening me, Gasman, instead of just commenting on my apparent stupidity?

If you click repeatedly on the status you can obtain different configurations of download and upload.
You can also move the headings of the transferview to arrange what order you wish to see.
DC++ does show pending downloads but only one of each from different nicks, same as oDC.

Configuration
I am aware of the sorting options, but was not aware that they had changed since I last tried it at 0.303. If DC++ now shows the pending filename, that in itself, will have been the biggest hurdle for me.
If it indeed turns out that 0.307 can do as I'm looking for, then I sincerely apologize for kicking up such a fuss over it all =D

Re: Files Waiting
It does though. My screenshot is all uploads because I don't download. Try DC++ and see for yourself.DeathStalker77 wrote:I don't see that DC++ shows the filenames for connections that are waiting - even when the STATUS just shows Connecting.... or Connection Timeout, oDC still shows what file is waiting to be downloaded.
Code: Select all
-- 0.306 2004-01-09 --
* Filename is shown on transfer error (no slots etc) (thanks ciber)
Oh? Sorry, we assume you actually run DC++, and a current version of it... Otherwise you run into situations like the current one where people request features that are already coded.DeathStalker77 wrote:I am aware of the sorting options, but was not aware that they had changed since I last tried it at 0.303.

Apologies
My sincerest apologies to all then - by reading the ChangeLogs, and other posts, I hadn't percieved any functional change since I last tried it at 0.303. As soon as I can shut down my current oDC session, I will give 0.307 a try and report back on my experiences.

Interface Issues - Partially Resolved
Ok, well dumb-ass me - I'll learn to CHECK things next time, before I post on them
0.307 has HALF of what I was looking for - it DOES finally have the awaiting filenames being shown (that was my main request), but there is still no way that I can see to get the Uploads separated from the Downloads. By clicking on the STATUS column, it either sorts
DOWNLOAD
DOWNLOAD
DOWNLOAD
UPLOAD
UPLOAD
Other files waiting for connection
OR
Other files waiting for connection
UPLOAD
UPLOAD
DOWNLOAD
DOWNLOAD
DOWNLOAD
OR
it sorts the same initially as the last example, and then other connections are placed wherever they are (no sorting).
I don't see any way to separate the Uploads from the Downloads in the list as it was in pre-0.3x versions
DOWNLOAD
DOWNLOAD
Other files waiting to connect
UPLOAD
UPLOAD
That's the only other option I can see as desireable (for me) at this time
I will attempt, in future, to not be such a dumb-ass

Re: Interface Issues - Partially Resolved
Sorting has changed since then - it seems to be strictly uploads -> downloads -> waiting uploads -> waiting downloads. (if yousort by nick)DeathStalker77 wrote:it sorts the same initially as the last example, and then other connections are placed wherever they are (no sorting).
Well, this sorting change was because people requested a change from the previous way... And then it was modified a bit because of other users complaining. I don't think the 0.301 (?) way of sorting will be back.I don't see any way to separate the Uploads from the Downloads in the list as it was in pre-0.3x versions

Exactly!
Naga hit the nail on the head - that's all I'm looking for is an option to at least switch between the "old way" and the current way

Isn't it your patch in DC++'s cvs that restores this behavior? Don't make it an option - there are too many usless options, I'm sure most people don't know that most of them exist.Naga wrote:would it be accepted to have this "keep uploads and download together" sorting feature as an option? Or is it a mod issue?

My thinking comes, generally, from this Ask Joel (of JoelOnSoftware) post. DC++ definitely has usability issues, especially for first time users. Just notice the number of posts in Help/Support - a lot of them are about misconfigured firewalls, searching without being connected, and unfamiliarity with terms ("slot ratio").Naga wrote:yes it is. Ok then I wont try and make it one
I think reducing the number of options makes sense, even if most of them are under Advanced and you're of the mindset: "It's an advanced setting - don't touch it if you don't know what it is."
