Beta testers...

Post by arnetheduck » 2003-02-01 08:58

Alright, the time has come for a few more beta testers, dch++ should be fairly stable by now...
If you're interested, pm me with the mac (hardware) address of the network card in the computer running the hub (which has to be w2k or xp)...you can get it by opening a dos prompt and type "ipconfig /all" but if you don't know that you're probably not the person to run dch++ (it's not very userfriendly...it runs as a service with no gui...), the number usually looks like "00-xx-xx-xx-xx-xx"...

Beta Tester...

If you need another beta tester, I wouldn't mind. I am just starting a hub but am a network and systems engineer.

I also am very, very good at writing and producing technical documents and could help write the "how-to" for everyone.

Send me an e-mail at nnhub<AT>hotmail.com.

I'll believe that when I see Arnetheduck say something definitive on the matter. He's the coder, so only his statements matter. ;)

Yes, you are looking at days, months, or years before DCH++ is released.

Do you have any unfinished projects or plans that we could ask you to put a timetable to? :) (I'm just trying to find equivalent situations, since most people can understand if you relate it to themselves.)

Arnetheduck is the only one who can answer that question, and I don't believe he has a timeframe in mind. Probably months, not days or years.

Well, yes, as a matter of fact I do this every day at work. We have what's called deadlines. We get a project plan, we assign developers and programmers and set a date of estimated completion. 97% of the time we make that date, the other 3% we are about 4-5 days off (usually due to illness). This is how buisness world tends to work. I have also been a developer for video games (Origin, and Atari) and we have set deadlines there as well, altho those are bit more vague, yet we define within a week, and if that deadline is not met we offer alternative dates and don't miss those.

In relation to hub work or my websites, if I say I will have an effect or change I will always set a timeframe, those may be days (in which case I may be delayed by my child, but no more than 2 days) - weeks (and I will never set weeks more than 8) - months (I always hit a month target date because I assume one more month than I generally need) - I've never set a year target date on any of my projects, never needed to.

Foxp, then i would say that the only difference between your projects and dch++ is that you get paid to finish yours on a certain time, or even to work on them. It's a very tiny thing, but it makes all the difference in the world ;)
