A 2nd DownLoad dir if/when the primary DL dir gets full

Post by Rodga » 2003-08-13 12:40

When you download a lot, sometimes the hard disk (download dir/folder) gets full.

The idéa: It should be more download (DL) directories! When the 1st DL-dir gets full, it should move the file file it was currently DL-ing to the 2nd DL-dir and continue DL-ing there. It could keep on doing this to the Xth DL-dir. (The next DL-dirs should of course be on different drives)

F. ex.:

1st download directory: C:\Program Files\DC++\Download
incomplete directory: C:\Program Files\DC++\Incomplete

<checkbox for enabling next DL-dir>

2nd download directory: D:\Download\DC
incomplete directory: D:\Download\Incomplete\DC

<checkbox for enabling next DL-dir>

Xth download directory: "X":\Download\DC
incomplete directory: "X":\Download\Incomplete\DC

Isn't the fact that you are filling an entire drive a sign that perhaps you should should stop downloading for a while and actually *sort* through what you have downloaded?

unless its full of incomplete downloads I dont see the point. Finished downloads should not be left in the incomplete folder, as sharing incomplete files is bad

I think pausing all downloads when you won't have enough disk space to hold the completed file + some configurable breathing space is a better solution than overflowing.

You really should sort though, organize, and re-share good downloads... DC depends on that, to a large degree, to stay "healthy."

Yes, I do organize. But when I'm away and DC++ is running, sometimes the disk gets full. Therefore I think it would be nice if DC++ would download to another free drive! What's so bad about that?

What's so bad about specifying a big enough HD to hold all your downloads? :) Come to think of it, I haven't seen an overflow download directory in Shareaza, Kazaa, WinMX, or Napster either.... :wink:
