Option to open the log folder from drop down menus

Post by Elbow » 2003-06-29 21:58

I would like to be able to access/view my log files.
Mainly chat.
Either from the drop down menu or even better right click a users name and be able to open the chat log.

thanks
I is Baka

The IM client Trillian has a neat little feature.. when you open up an IM window to someone it displays the earlier messages (logs) above, in gray tone... could DC++ do something similar?

yes, that's a good feature.

Adding it in the context menu of the user list seems a good idea for me.

I'd like to see in that menu another option: open downloaded filelist, because in good hubs filelists take a while to download ;)

File --> Open File List ...
Is that what you are after?

ok, after reading my post I realize: it's not clear what I wanted.

I understood that Elbow (which is a good friend of mine) suggested opening a user's chat log right-clicking on its name in the user list. And I wanted to say that opening his downloaded filelist would be nice aswell.

So, that item in the context menu of users list would open the downloaded filelist of a user. No need to "file | open file list" and search on a zillion filelists.

basically a way of expanding the user right click menu to allow external commands and / commands would be nice, which I think has been mentioned several times already

My fault. You wrote "in that menu" but I read ot as "in the menu", as in the main menu. Hence my response.

Sidenote, how should this behave if you don't have a file list for the user?

Should it not show the menu choice?
Should it queue the file list?
Something else?

The easiest option is that item does nothing when the filelist is not present. And the nicest is not to show it in the menu, but that would add a menu lag, isn't it?

Grabbing the filelist would be a nice trick though

(hope you like this fullfilled answer) :?

A problem that will crop up is the fact that DC++ currently has no way of knowing if a filelist is complete or if it is being downloaded without doing some checking of what is being downloaded, and even then you can't be sure of a valid filelist. It's not a big deal, though, so...

Hmm... might be interesting to code.

Which is another reason DC++ should use the incomplete directory for file lists.

I added this to DC++k. To see how I did it, go read this text file.

Feel free to patch your own homegrown version of DC++ with this if you want - it's not pretty, but it does the job (unless you open downloading filelists, as I pointed out before).

So now I'll have to import 3rd party features? ;)

I'll consider it, for sure.
