Status window for system msg and bots
Yeeah! What about that? I would like a status window where for example all the joins/parts could appear. Also mass-msg, msg from Hub-Security and various bots.
don't know how to implement this, maybe one could have a settings tab that lets you choose bot nicks to show in the status window. And also choose if you wanna show joins/parts, mass-msg, CRC-check msg, "files does already exist" msg..
I think this feature would be really GREAT! Also i would like a log function on this window too if it is at all possible to implement.
Thanks for your time

I guess the poster wanted a way to monitor all joins/parts/irrelevant information as well as a simple way of ignoring that information (by simply closing/minimizing the window).
The join/part could be useful in some instances for hub-ops without access to the computer on which the hub runs.

exactly
sarf my friend, you just got everything right.. as you say I want the join/part thingy to monitor which users comes and goes and who hubjumpes.. having these msg in main chat is worthless, also I'm thinking of all the kicking the normal users have to put up with, ofcourse you can put on the "ignore kick" but it doesn't ignore it completely, and what if you want to be able to see the info but not just have it in the middle of the chat. I have always belived that the main chat should be used for chatting only.. having all system and bot msg appear there sometimes makes it impossible to talk to someone. The ultimate solution I think, is having a separate window for all those msg's, then everyone can choose what they want and don't want to see. DC++ already have a "ignore all users that are offline"-feature, why not just put those msg's in a status window?
Also all msg that come from your client, like /away confirmation and stuff like that should go to this window (optional, ofcourse)!

Re: exactly
How would this window handle the input from several hubs? Or are we talking about one "status window" per hub window here?

good question, haven't thought about that, hm.. maybe one status window for each hub is necasary to not confuse all the msg's, but that would mean alot of new tabs, maybe one container/tab named Status and then different sections for each hub inside that container..

sounds great..
you could put ignored private messages (when implemented) in there as well

Might be included in the hub window, to the right, with a check box (as for the userlist) disabled by default, so that you could easily use it on the hubs of your choice.
I don't think that every hub in the same window is a good choice. If you are in a 300 users hub and in a 20 users hub, the bigest will flood the display. Besides, separate status panels should use less neurons (I don't have so much spare neurons).

many good suggestions, hope this will be a real feature

more and more important(?) info goes to the status bars.. time to make this feature a reality.. would be good to get an easy way to access all that info just swooshing by!

Re: Status window for system msg and bots
I already suggested this feature, this is what i wanted to see in a status window
(and there are more things you can think of)
- "hub messages" (like: "disconnected/reconnected from hub foo", futhermore things like kicks, bans, hub messages, etc)
- filelist messages (like "filelist reloaded", "finished/failed hashing: file.txt")
- chat log (all the conversations you had)
- search log (like: "searched for file.avi, 0 results", "matched 10 items for user abc12")
- transfer log (like: "disconnected by user123", "switching to source:user2","started downloading from user3","warning: disk full")
- custom (let the user decide what events are showed here)
- all (show all the events)
Also, there could be tiny icons for each sort of action, to have a nice clean overview, and maybe a text file to output everything (so you can read back things from previous dc++ sessions)
The current way is to log all the events to the statusbar, but this is barely readable and most times things happen in the background so you are unable to notice it.

Sure, I will. Give me time, alright? (this has been the plan from the moment I used the status-bar messages for other purposes.)cyberal wrote:more and more important(?) info goes to the status bars.. time to make this feature a reality.. would be good to get an easy way to access all that info just swooshing by!
