Pls add Http tunneling to dc++it's a more important features
Dear programmers of Dc++
Can you add Http tunneling to dc++, there aren't p2p prg that support this option..
Except hotline client p2p but it sucks.. and it's for mac but the version for win sucks.
Surely the http tunneling into proxy server slow the connection but if you add this option i 'll thank forever..

Plz don't!
There already are some users that tunnel their connection to get into hubs that have a 10Mbit-only rule. Enabling this in DC++ itself will fill these hubs with ADSL users, which have at most a fourth of the required speed! (I'm referring to BoStream who delivers 2.5Mbit ADSL)

Let me get this straight Corlane. You are asking that a feature - http tunneling in this case - not be implemented because it might be abused?
The primary feature of DC++ is file sharing. Maybe we should remove that feature d/t the fact it might be abused.

Reality is what you can get away with.
I do not know the difference between different types of proxy but my situation is this. I have a slow line 128Kbps and when i connect to DC Hubs i get speeds of max 16KB/sec. My ISP has a high speed proxy which i use for download from http servers and i get till 60KB/sec downloads.... is there any way to make me connect through this proxy? Is this the feature you are discussing? If this is possible i would be very grateful for implmenting it in the new versions of DC++.

You are not going through proxy faster. In fact it is not possible to go that fast through 128 Kbps line that fast. 16 KB/s is quite realistic value. You have obviously seen misleading value web browser shows while downloading from internet. Wake up and smell the fart, it will be abused. I know there are people out there whose ISPs are limiting or even blocking use of ports 411 and 412 (if my memory serves me right), but in which area will it be mostly used? Overriding bans and ISP checks, or overriding portblocks?

How to get the socket 5 tunneling in dc++ without authentication (username and password)??
I am under a proxy server if i select socket 5 inserting ip and port and no username and password dc++ locks!!
With Hotline Connect with http tunneling no need of input the ip and port and program connect to net..but the p2p hotline sucks..!!
It's possible add http tunneling into proxy server without authentication??

I wished to say that i sure have a 128KBPS line but my line with my ISP is of 10MBit. When i use proxy with Http downloads i sure get high speeds (i'm using it from 2 years now)
Our ISP admins implement bandwidth limitations only on direct connection, so i'm saying that i'm sure for the high speeds i take. When i use Proxy with Hotline Connect i get much higher speeds so i think that with a proxy implementation on DC++ my life will become easier....

ASH can also detect users tunneling. However, for hubs that uses isp-check this is a serious issue. The problem is not to detect a guy tunneling. Problems arrise when you try to deal with it. With so many networks using only one single outgoing IP in conjunction with DHCP, banning one single user often have the effect that several users, sometimes whole universities, gets banned. But I guess there is a solution to everything.

in my case the ISP has socs 5 turned off ... i was using http-tunel and it was working fine untill he blocked all the http-tunel server adresses.... so an HTTP tuneling config within DC++ would be more than welcome....

Well you obviously need a cohort (or an open proxy, which is actually what I was alluding to in that post) on a specific ISP to fool hubs that are ISP-only into thinking you're okay.
It's interesting to know that DC++ can use HTTP proxies. I guess it's pasive only, unless they handle UDP?
I don't think many in this thread are convinced of the legitimacy of such tunnels anyhow. That covers either legitimate need by users, or making use of http proxies that you've been authorized to, not that have been left unsecured by an incompetent administrator. Adding more proxy types just means more proxy-rape and abuse by malicious DC++ users. Let the cheat clients code that feature in themselves... if they can.
If the issue is open proxies, more hubs need to go the IRC route and probe every computer that connects to them, and make use of existing black hole DNS lists to lock out connections from known open proxies. That's the purpose of the http://opm.blitzed.org/ list.
