Bandwidth

Hey,

How much bandwidth will I need for my small hub. There's ususally only around 20 users using the hub and I want to share my files aswell as hosting the hub.

I only have a 256kb/s upstream connection and wondered what's the most I should cap my upload speed at?

Thanks,
Evo.

With a upload bandwidth of 256 kbps (32 kBytes/s), there is no problem to run the hub, and if there only is about 20 users, then you do not feel the hub traffic.

As an exampel I run a hub using the old NeoModus hub-program, and it is close to 48 hours I last restarted the hub --> and the upload in those 48 hours is 750 Mb, which is about a average upload of 4,3 kBytes/s (34,7 kbps), and there is in avereage about 150 users connected.

So I guees your hub-traffic-upload would be less than 1 kBytes/s :)

a rough estimate (b is upload in kbit/s, u is number of users): b = (u/20)^2
So yeah... 1 kilobit, which equals 128 bytes/s :)
