How to get an IP address for a hub
Yes finally i have got my hub running but the thing is that it is running through a router and my IP add for my router is 10.0.0.8 and when i try to put that in at www.no-ip.com it says "The IP address you entered is invalid. Please enter a non-private IP network address" can any one plz help??
That's a local IP address, enter the IP you get from www.whatismyip.com

You have not correctly enabled port forwarding.[22:52] *** Connecting to desiundaground.no-ip.com...
[22:53] *** Connection refused by target machine
That is because you are on the inside of the network and so the private network address will work. Addresses of that type are not accessible from the global internet as they are not unique.if i try 10.0.08 on my pc it works and on my brothers pc too

How to set up active mode with a hardware firewall/router?
It's not exactly what you are after, but the basic principal is the same.
www.portforward.com may be useful as well.

Yes mate i have tried that link you gave me http://www.portforward.com/zoom/5554.htm , but that doesnt seem to work i have gone through the instruction as it says, because you have to go to "Virtual Server Config" and set up another sort of ip adress and you have to put the id in as 3 or 4 because the rest are being used up , but then it comes to public port & private port what do i have to put in there?? ps ive got a Zoom Adsl router.

I made another somple misstake but which shouldn't make any diffrence. Only the TCP port is neccesry, not UPD. What I described with the ports was client<->client traffic.
Can you post a screenshot of the portforwarind section of your router? ( You'll need to host it somewhere else and the link to it here. )

desiundaground.no-ip.com doesn't point to the IP you're currently posting from.
your forwarding works fine (no need for the UDP rule, though) - when I telnetted to your computer on port 411, I got this:
(which is the beginning of the client <-> hub handshake)

Moderators can see the IP address from which every forum post is made. GMT is saying that the IP address of "desiundaground.no-ip.com" is not the same as the IP address that you are posting from, ie. you are therefore trying to connect to an address that no longer points to your machine.Desiundaground wrote:What do you mean when you say "desiundaground.no-ip.com doesn't point to the IP you're currently posting from"
GMT made a manual connection to your IP address (and therefore your machine) and was able to begin communication with your hub software, indicating that it is in fact running.Desiundaground wrote:what do you mean by "when I telnetted to your computer on port 411, I got this"

I said to you just now (in your hub) that I connected to "desiundaground.no-ip.com", but I made a mistake. That address no longer points to your machine. I connected to the IP address from which you posted. This is just a rehash of the last post I made. :sigh:Desiundaground wrote:ParanoidOne how did you get into my hub??

No, because that is a local address which is only available within your network which has already been explained to you at the top of the page!
This is becoming exasperating. Please just read every single post in this thread carefully. There is so much repetition of the same pieces of information over and over again.

You should have received a piece of software that keeps that address synchronised with the IP address of your machine. This will mean that people will be able to connect to your hub using the DNS name no matter how many times the IP address of your computer changes.
So to recap, your hub is now working and accessible externally. To make sure that everyone can properly access it you need to:
a) Run the dynamic DNS update software (as mentioned above), at all times.
b) Tell people the no-ip.com address of the hub.

Yes, this is exactly the point I was heading towards (if you weren't able to google a solution from what I said about your no-ip address not pointing to your computer's current IP address).TheParanoidOne wrote:So to recap, your hub is now working and accessible externally. It doesn't work !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I ve tried to connect and i get the same "connection timeout". Does the owner have to be on-line in order for the hub to work or is it possible to access it without the owner, as desiundaground's owner doesn't always have his pc on all the time

Re: It doesn't work !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Read the above posts about that his dns address doesn't update to correspond with his current ip which is neccesary for him as he seems to have a very dynamic ip.harvyo2 wrote:I ve tried to connect and i get the same "connection timeout".
