ok so i know im gonna make nyself sound dum, for which i aplogise. i have entered not ports manually, once i installed ptokax 0.326 in network settings the port number 411 was already input, i just typed my hub address in the relevent box (this a registered address with no-ip.com service) im not a great expert with port settings so i ask you to be a little forgiving i am guessing that my hub is not running due to some simple config but i just cant seem to find what i am doing wrong (btw, in the bottom corner of the ptotax software is does say its running but that probably dont mean a thing!?!?!?

If you're not behind a firewall, and the hub is running (and on your local machine), connecting to 127.0.0.1 on the port the hub is running will work. If it doesn't work, one of those assumptions is false.
I've asked you about all of them, and you say that you're doing everything right.
Once you've connected locally, you still need to allow inbound access through your router for your hub - but making sure it works locally comes first.

hi m8, many thanks for your help, you have helped a great amount, i can now connect to my hub on the same computer, but maybe going a little off topic i cannont connect via my other computer nor is my hub listed on the hublist so like you say i need to configure my router to allow inbound access but im at a loss how to do it, i have a very confusing unbranded router that is not helping me very much so any advice would be greatfully recieved

hi m8, ive done that and it works fine but i nothing else can connect to my hub, im pretty sure its a router related problem, and having a very cheap adsl modem router i think my nightmare is just begining, like is said i cannot connect to my hub via any other p.c only the p.c running the ptotax hub software itself and typeing the i.p address you stated, like you said i need to allow inbound access on my router, only i cant find how to do that many thanks

hi friend, as i said earlier i have a real crappy router, i have gone accessed the router setup, but i have no port forwarding options avaliable to me, the only thing that i think maybe resembles this is virtual server configuration. its a conexant chipset and doing a google search i dont think im alone on the port forwarding front!!! forgive me if im way off but i think im p**sing in the wind or do i need to increase my brain cell capacity!!!!
many thank so far for all your help and patience

ok many thanks, as i am kinda newbie to this area im a little confused as to where i place certain port numbers and which ip address....(just hit me with a spade) ok in my virtual server setup configuration i have 4 boxs, the first which is ID (i have entered 1) second box is public port, then the thrid box is private port, followed by a option for port type ( i have selected TCP) last but not least is a box for HOST IP ADDRESS....now do i place 411 in the public or private box and and is the host ip address the ip add on the network?? sorry for such a long topic with so many questions and im sure yer all banging yer heads against a brick wall but hey, its the best way to learn many thanks

ok , i have 2 computers on a network linked via a 4 port ethernet through a adsl modem router, on one computer i have setup ptotax 0.326 hub software. i have registered my i.p address with no-ip.com and created an address magic-chilli.servebeer.com (dont ask why ) i can connect to my hub on the same computer using the address 127.0.0.1 and this is fine, however my hub name is not getting listed on hublists and i cannot connect to it via my other computer. in the setup program for my router its seems that my options are very limited, i have setup a virtual server on both tcp and udp inserting port 411 in public and private port settings and in host i.p address i have placed the i.p of the p.c, other than that i cant think of anything else to tell you
many thanks

thought id add this note, on the p.c running the ptotax software i can only connect to my hub with the 127.0.0.1 address, if i use the magic-chilli.servebeer.com the client receives a connection refused by target machine? is this the problem? sorry for sounding dum, just trying to give as much info as i can
That takes time. You can manually add your hubs address at www.hublist.orghowever my hub name is not getting listed on hublists.
On your other computer, open the public hublist window in DC++. Enter the local IP of the computer running the hub in the Manual Connect address box.i cannot connect to it via my other computer.
Bottom line, you still need to configure your ADSL modem/router to allow port 411 in to the computer running your hub.
hi m8, i have registered my hub with hublist.org, which i done about 4 days ago, if i go to hublist.org site it says the hub is offline although its running this end.
i have now connected to my hub from my other computer via the manual connect address using the local ip address, thanks to your help and advice.
so that leaves only the router, for which the only optionsthat bear any resemblance to this is the virtual server config which i have setup to allow port 411 as public access as discussed earlier.
maybe a hammer will do the trick
any other advice on the router side much appreciated

Seems to be working.*** Connecting to magic-chilli.servebeer.com...
*** Connected
<Hub-Security> This hub is running PtokaX DC Hub 0.3.2.6 TestDrive 4.99 (UpTime: 6 hours, 57 minutes)
Private message from opp's bot: <opp's bot> You have not met the minimum share size of xx bytes.
*** Disconnected
On some setups (mine included) you cannot access any resources on the internal network using the external IP address (from within the network). This is most likely what has happened with you.
