Is there still a dev hub? I've tried all listed in this thread at least and none seem to work. Or have I just overlooked something somehow?

This hub seems to have been down since december, any thoughts? I'd like to pick someone's brains for my client.

Sedulus is the one running the hub, and he's gone MIA. You can always post your questions etc on this forum.

And if we decide we like you, we'll let you join the private one. :)

This forum is the best public way to get in touch with people who know what they're talking about. Unless there's a trustworthy person with plenty of spare bandwidth for the occasional hub flooding, I don't forsee the DC Development Public Hub coming back.

Gargs post applies just the same to an IRC channel...

Not true; it's a legitimate open source project, there are organisations out there that are prepared to take a bit of flak for the sake of a project.

Well, maybe one.

Anyway, I just find it frustrating that the only way to "get to know" you guys is a forum, which I find to be the internet equivalent of sticking postit notes on your flatmates door. I much prefer IRC, hence writing my chat-only client that's interfaced with from IRC. (blatant plug: http://sourceforge.net/projects/pidge )

In the past there has existed two dev-hubs. One private and one public. Since Sedulus shutdown the public hub, no one has cared enough to setup a public one. The private hub is still up and operational (hosted by me). Either you set up a new public hub, and maintain it which none of us in the private hub has done yet since we don't care enough about. Sure, we do agree that it would be a good thing to have, but noone cares enough to set it up. Or you can contact someone in the private hub.
Everyone is supposed to download from the hubs, - I don´t know why, but I never do anymore.

Daywalker has setup a public dev hub, about a week or two ago (admitely not many devs in it at moment) devpublicroom.servebeer.com:1411 is the addy.
He lives in Holland, so should have quite a bit of spare bandwidth for the occasional flooding it's bound to suffer at some point.

Concerns:
1. The old list had restrictions in place so only registered users could search or download. (Before this, we had lots of people coming into the hub who weren't interested in talk - just whatever MoGlo had told them was in the hub). This needs to be replicated.
2. Passwords to the private hub have often been transmitted via PM in the public hub in the past. The person running it has to either already have access, or be trusted not to intercept PMs.
3. There may not be a number three. I'm not sure, since those two points are my primary objections to J.Random.User setting up hubs in the past.
4. Oh yeah, either TE or people who want us to think they're TE, routinely attack the hub. Sedulus's hub was on a nice fat pipe (10Mbit+), so if you run an officially sanctioned DC Public hub, you need to have lots of bandwidth and be generally DDoS resistant.

Unless it's publicly accessible, it's no better than our existing invite-only hub.

1. Seems to be in effect from what I can see.
The address is devpublicroom.servebeer.com:1411 and it can be accessed by anyone.
So I would say that 2. is the only main concern.

this is already set :)

no such script in this hub en for trusting me.. feel free to ask ppl about me for that :)

this might be an issue..but for me..i think that ddos thingy is my problem cause i don't think any line can run smoothly when it's under a ddos atack.

Hmm. A good response. But trust is the core, of the issue, right?

Sedulus hosted a couple hubs on his line - I think the DDoS only affected the one we were on. Well, it wasn't a DDoS proper, it was the following:
* many users from a couple sets of IPs (not in the same range) joining
* chat spamming from all aforementioned users

Your answers seem to be right, or at least address my questions as stated. If enough other members of the existing dev hub go to yours, I'll go too.

nah sedulus only hosted the dcdevpublic i believe... the other one was on another 10 mbit line ;-)

Well, I just set up dcdev.no-ip.org:16591.

1 is taken care of, 2 is... Well, I'll be collecting your shoe size too... 3, yes, I'm unknown. 4, I'm also on a 'fat pipe'...

Sounds like proxy flooders to me..that's more a hubsecurity thingy i think

even on a 10/10 line it's nasty :)

well you can ask around and talk to me in person if that helps...
trust is something that can't be coded nor written as plain text. :)

I think, for now, I'll join ullner's hub. We'll play this by ear, exactly how everything is always played out. :)

The hub address is changed. It is now adc://dcdev.no-ip.org:16591.

Yes, ADC, and it is time to make a stand. Moving to ADC is the natural choice. Considering we are the ones that thrive the DC network forward, it is only obvious we are the ones that's making the stand.

I will NOT set up the NMDC hub again unless something unexpected happens. Whining is not part of that.

[22:01:30] *** Connecting to adc://dcdev.no-ip.org:16591...
[22:01:30] *** Connected
[22:01:31] <DCDev public> Field U4 has an invalid value, removed

And then nothing.

Oh dear. I guess a negative port number could be construed as invalid. ;)

Given that I've provided rubbish data, shouldn't it either a) still let me in or b) disconnect me? It's just sitting there.
The world is coming to an end. Please log off.

You can't get a more 'latest' draft... ;)

The hub should remove the parameter if it's incorrect... I'll look into it.

Well, I cannot reproduce the problem, TPO. I used the same port as you and the hub removed it successfully without putting me into limbo. (It should let you in, despite of the incorrect parameter.)

There is no "MOTD" if you were waiting for that. Did you try and chat? :) It might be the same problem Phantom experience with STATE_NORMAL, but since I can't reproduce that either...
