i recently upgraded my RAM 256 to supposedly 512...
i put in the 512, i already had 256 in, and now it says i only have 512..not 768??....
ne one know if there is a setting to change or something?...

Take out memory, place 512 in first bank and 256 in second bank.

Look at in your BIOS for memory display, and settings that might limit the amount of memory (I don't think I've ever seen one). Take a look at your motherboard manual for instructions on which DIMM/RIMM slots are supposed to be filled in first, and for supported memory configurations. Ground yourself, then do as gasman says.

ah, my fault, i missed step 1. make sure RAM is plugged in.

lol, it popped out when i put the other in...

Then you can be lucky that you didn't burn the memory, happend to me once but with an old memory which I had plenty.

I've not seen anything that does exactly that either, but I know that the BIOS in my desktop allows me to enable/disable individual memory banks. It's quite possible that in some PCs, this feature may exist with some banks disabled by default. A dumb default perhaps, but you never know.

yeah luckily, i was just a plain idiot, lol...
must have popped out when i put the other in, i was lucky not to burn it out like....glad for that...
still had to buy a new psu tho!!!!!!!!!!.....
set it self up as soon as i put it in..
