10,000 Registered Users!

Post by TheParanoidOne » 2003-08-24 17:50

I just noticed that we have gone past the 10,000 registered users mark!

In fact, as I write, the exact number is 10454. That's a *lot* of people!

Wow! That is alot of people. Damn.. I'm torn as to whether this is a good thing or not. Logically, more forum members == more DC users, which means more data available. That's good. On the other hand, this means that the DC community is starting to get alot more attention. This is not good since the 'powers that be' will undoubtedly start to take more interest as well. hm...

I agree Xan. To be honest, when I first started using DC, almost no one that I knew had heard of it. It was kinda cool, like an "exclusive" p2p network.

As far as my involvement in the forum: Because of the nature of my job (Mechanical Engineering internship), I have been able to spend some time during the day on this forum (as well as others) inbetween projects, etc. As you probably know, I am outspoken...and it has been fun having my opinions heard on different features and ideas that have the potential of being implemented into my favorite app. And, when I had more time, it has been rewarding helping people in the help forum (regardless of how terribly aggravating it is answering some of the same questions over and over and over again :o ).

I honestly don't understand the people who go to the trouble of registering, and then never actually posting anything. Strange!

Now that I have been thinking about it, I wonder if somehow I am hurting DC when I help those that use it.

The more people that use DC, the more likely it will be targeted. I think that the help given in the help forum may have a negative effect on the longevity of DC.

Just some thoughts.

Lol, thats hilarious that 7000 people went through the trouble of registering and did not post anything, how stupid.

Now if only those 7000 people spent the same ammount of effort clicking on some ads for the dc++ creators then they would be a little richer :)

But that means that 3000 people are posting!

That is still a lott of people

Also i think it is not very handy that there are so many people interrested in dc++, software manyfactureres are trying very hard to search for illegal coppies and so on. :?

Well, the largest percent of posts are in the Help/Support forum. MANY of the posts in there are from unregistered users. So there are more people actively posting than it seems at first.

I missed this... what ads? :) Only Jon Hess has ads in his client. And the only way to get money to the sole DC++ creator is the paypal link.
