So I want to access the router to make some changes and hopefully get active mode and/or UnP set up. (which is a whole battle on its own)
I typed my gateway IP (192.168.0.1 like everyone else) and I get a popup box: "Enter username and password for WGT642 at (IP)." I honestly don't know, what username and password should I use? Heheh it sounds dumb but I'm stumped.

Well since it's your router, you the only person who has a chance of knowing. Or google, via looking for the defalt Username and password for your router.

Look in the manual for your router. If you do not have the manual, Google for it.

There is usually a reset button on your router which will reset it back to the default (usually you have to hold it down for a few seconds). You can then google your router to get the default username and password.

it looks like this is the first time he accesses his router... so the default settings should be still in it

I have set up such a router a few months ago for a friend. I may not be remebering correctly.
