Having problems making a 4k avatar

I would like to make an avatar but I can't seem to keep it at 4k.

Any suggestions would be welcome.

gif/lossless:
- decrease # of colors
- keep large spaces the same color
jpg/lossy:
- vary compression ratio
- don't use many sharp lines, or it will get ugly

Use non-interlaced PNG instead of GIF, it's smaller (and has all the features of GIF + many more [like alpha transparency, which I use; though Internet Exploder doesn't support it]).
