It would be nice if one could tell what search matches not to list....
If i want to search for a demo version of Unreal Tournament 2004 for example and type "ut 2004 demo" i might get alot of matches on screenshots and alot of other related stuff that i dont need. It would take me forever to browse through some 100 matches!
If i could search for say "ut 2004 demo -screenshot" (like you do on google), it would not list filenames containing the word "screenshot".
This was just an example of a search...i get this problem with whatever i search for.

Or you could restrict it to an executable/compressed file search and save cycles on both your end and the end of the people returning the search results. Or, simply set the size threshold above a meg or two to prevent images from getting returned. Problem solved.

does the dropdown box not solve this problem? (set the filetype to exe/zip etc) alternatively you could try bcdc which does this. I'm pretty sure there was a question about this feature recently, i would be nice if you searched for similar ideas before posting new ones.

That would probably solve it in this particular case, but as i said:
"This was just an example of a search...i get this problem with whatever i search for."
And i almost always restrict file types when searching.

a google like search is very high on my list of favorite features.. I don't know how difficult it is to program, but it should be a big improvement.
I often have the same problem when i search for a movie which has a short name, i get hundreds of other titles which also contain the search string..

I think BCDC had this feature awhile back, not sure if it's still there (the "ut 2004 demo -screenshot" one).

Overly broad.

It doesn't need to be exactly like the google search. Just that one feature that excludes some matches.

Not sure if this is relevant, but the latest fulDC (DC++ mod), v 6.45, supports "Filter in the searchwindow with support for regular expressions" (my translation). Could be something to look at.
