ban uploader

Post by el_taco » 2004-03-19 18:32

An idea... add the ability to prevent a certain user from sending you files. For example, I join a hub and search for an mp3, and come up with 20 matches. None have an open slot, so I select all and download. Some of these users send at about 100 bytes/sec though, and it would be nice to simply remove them from the equation, so that faster senders are not put in line behind them.
great googly moogly, did you see that loogie?

This is similar to the "Automatically disconnect if speed is less than ..." feature request that is floating around here numerous times.

not really.. what he's asking for is an extension to the manual "remove user from queue"-option ... and also ban that source and stop it from beeing added by autosearch again..

Seems to be about slow sources to me.

[ 669593 ] Switch download source when below specified speed

Cyberal, I agree it could have other uses, but Taco man seems to be using it for the same problem that the above feature request solves.

I see no reason to make this request difficult by making it an automatic speed-dependant feature. The user wants to manually remove and ban users... way simpler than coding an automatic speed-slot-closer.

The original request was this:
el_taco wrote:An idea... add the ability to prevent a certain user from sending you files.
and then..
el_taco wrote:For example...

so NO, this feature has nothing todo with speed.. it can be used for it yes..

Ok. Look at it this way, cyber: aggregation of similar features.

Stop being contrary, and see what he want to use it for. People don't always ask for the best solution to their problems.

true,
but the solution/option works (i.e. a manually remove/ban users from download-queue), while it does not solve the remove-slow-sources-"problem" per se.

I'd say that CyberAl has a point

I was also thinking in adding this kind of feature myself. I would call it "blacklist user".
I would blacklist a user if he keeps on disconnecting me or its download speed I judge too low. The benefit would be that blacklisted users would not be considered as potential sources during the whole session and would not also appear on the search window.
That would be nice.
I could also extend it to no slot would be granted to blacklisted users. That would maybe stop people using slotblockers and netlimiters (although I doubt it). But it might also lead to other nasty behaviours like grant me a slot or I disconnect-blacklist you...

blacklist

I agree with the "balcklist user" feature, thoug i'd recomend it be only for personal use ie. i can blacklist a person, but no option for stopping that person form dl'ing from me. this would then prevent DC++ dl'ing from said blacklisted persons, wich is great when u know they are shareing unfinished torrents or similar files.

The option to avoid specific users is an open request in the feature tracker, FYI:

[ 771569 ] manually label sources as preferred or to be avoided
