Colour OPs nicks in main chat.

Post by XP2 » 2004-02-19 18:19

How about an option to show the <NICK> portion for OPs in main chat as a differnt colour ?

<OPsNick> This for ops
<UserNick> Normal for users

the colour could be hardcoded or set as a user option. This will allow users to notice the ops chat and therefore not say they didnt see it in a sea of all "normal" coloured text.

If not just the <Nick> tag then the whole line could be "highlighted".

I don't think DC++ will ever change over from a plain text edit box to one that's capable of coloring. (which isn't said in the comments for that rejected feature.)

This is at Protocol-level in the IRC-protcol and not on the UI-level. Adding it on the UI-level whitout restricting the protocol-level is uninteresting.

no its not.. at least not in this thread... it accomplishes exactly what the thread starter wants.. a differentiation between normal users and OPs!

so what will people do with people who call themself @ivulfusbar but is not an operator? Remove the @ in the chat-displaying? Sure you can if you want. Its like stripping out the [isp]-part of nicknames in some mods.

1. use @<ivulfusbar> instead of <@ivulfusbar> (which incidentally also doesn't conflict with the way onContextMenu works)
2. block @'s in names
3. use colors like suggested above =)

Those look very nice... I realize that oDC, et. al. let you change colors on the fly, but I like the lua approach better. =)
