Shutdown

for some reason I think this feature is a little leechy, I know I know.. the users share as long as they download.. but I don't think thats enough.. many of you have probably tried BitTorrent.. there is a reason why they ask ppl to keep the windows open even after the download is done.. lots of ppl download faster than they upload so they take up more resources than they give.. the least they you can do is keep your dc running for others to download.. shutting it down intsantly when you are done IS leechy imo! Some may argue that they need to shutdown cause they sleep in the same room.. now lets see.. when is the noise a problem? Answer: when you are going to sleep.. when you are already sleeping, the computer may aswell keep running.. if you have managed to fall asleep you won't wake up!
Anyways.. oDC has this feature!

LuDC has this feature as well. Some users will use external scheduling programs to do the killing at preset times anyhow, one user who has done this OmniXBro, continually leaves ghosts behind.
Adding scheduling features to DC++ is probably worth it in the end... but isn't too interesting, all in all.
I would like dc++ to have this feature.
Sometimes when I want to shutdown my computer, I have some unfinished uploads, and when they're finished, some other uploads have begun.
There was something about sleeping with the computer on, sure, it's possible, but you don't sleep well. And sleeping is important

I'm with you Twink. The last night I slept without a PC fan blowing nearby....well...I can't remember one honestly. Kind of like sleeping with a fish tank nearby; once you get used to it, something's "missing" without that sound, though it is initially quite bothersomeTwink wrote:i can't see why you can't learn to sleep with it on, i've been doing so for years and you cetainly couldn't call my computer quiet. I actually sleep better with it on now

I find the smooth sound of my computer to be relaxing at night.
This isn't that bad of a suggestion for a feature, but cyberal's point is very good. Sounds like "Get what you want and leave". What about Shutdown after a certain amount of time (for example 2 hours) of no download activity? That way they stick around for a little while longer after finishing, but the computer will still auto shutdown.

Well, I can´t sleep with noise in my bedroom and I´m 100% sure I would never get used to it (well, maybe after one year or so) and I understand fully people who turn off their computers over night.Twink wrote:that still is cutting people off thou, does it really hurt to leave your computer on?, i mean ok some of you dont like to sleep with it on, but that might just be cos u aint used to it.
I´m lucky in the way that my two computers (one workstation and one game server/hub) are placed in the livingroom and not the bedroom, so I have on always and still can sleep good.
Just another silly hub owner
of course we understand that. but it seems (correct me if im wrong) that they want to have the computer on for downloads while they (try to) sleep, and shutdown it when it's done...synapz wrote:Well, I can´t sleep with noise in my bedroom and I´m 100% sure I would never get used to it (well, maybe after one year or so) and I understand fully people who turn off their computers over night.Twink wrote:that still is cutting people off thou, does it really hurt to leave your computer on?, i mean ok some of you dont like to sleep with it on, but that might just be cos u aint used to it.

I think many of you are forgetting why programs first added this type of feature a long long time ago - when a constant internet connection was not common. This would be very useful for people who sign online though a modem, especially if they don't have a dedicated phone line - comparable to a dedicated internet connection like many people have now.
Revisit this please
I'd like this feature as well.. but you could make it for upload completion only.
Honestly, I don't care about my downloads. I can always do a search and resume, but I don't want to cut off my uploaders. It would just be nice convenient way to to cut off my sharing a day before an online gaming match. Also, it would keep people from adding into the queue and disappointing them when I cut off early.
