Include RAR files when searching for Video only?

Post by tclass » 2003-09-11 03:20

Hi,
more and more hubs are suggesting that w share movies in RAR format (using WINRAR to unpack) as it is easier to download and to ensure that the file is OK.

But when I do a search with Video only, it excludes RAR files.

Would it be possible to have the option of including RAR files in Video searches?

A RAR file is an archive format though and can therefore be used for any type of file, including software. Including it under "Video" might be a bit misleading. It would also return you a lot more erroneous search results.

you can always get the source and add .rar to it.

I never built dc++ but it shouldn't be difficult (and you can always ask here)

This would not have the desired effect. S/he wants search results for "Video" to contain RARs. Search results come from other people. It would therefore be those other people who would have to have RAR included in Video.

ah, I thought that it worked the other way, you select 'video' and dc++ send searches for .avi .asf etc..

I believe there was a good reason for doing it the way it is, probably because sending multiple searches one for each extension was too much?

No. Each of the "types" such as video, audio, etc are representing by a single number. The destination decides how to interpret that number ie. what extensions it represents.
