small feature: a recommendations text file?

Post by mizushimo » 2003-08-14 18:41

I think it would be very cool to have a way to give my recommendations to downloaders besides spamming the chat rooms. I have an extremely large share full of more anime/jpop junk then you could shake a stick at, most people don't want to take the time to sort through the mad labyrinth of folders to find anything more then what they are specifically looking for.

What if users could create a text file of reccommendations for things in their share that could be downloaded by other users(just like the file lists), I have alot of very cool things in my share that no one ever downloads and there is really no way of letting people know about them besides the description next to your share and file names :(

one solution could be to simply share less.. pick out the "good stuff".. the things you want ppl to download! :)

OR create a folder called "!Recommendations"...and put a .txt file in there with your recommendations.

Just a thought.
Hehe.

I didn't really suggest to share less, I suggestied to share the good stuff, which is good I belive. Main stream stuff is shared by everyone, if he has something original, he should share that! :)

Nearly all of the things I share are rare 8) . I have stopped sharing episodes(except raw) because of the sheer amount other good stuff that I seem to have that no one else does.

most people wouldn't bother to download a text file called "recommendations", you have to download someone's file list first. IF it were a normal feature that was part of the program people would be more likely to download it.

Most people go onto DC++ looking for something specific and either they find it or they don't. There's no real good way of sharing things that you really like to other people unless they already know about it and are looking for it.

Probably because:

Personally, filelists are ways for me to download things that I didn't know I wanted. I can definately see a place for a recommendations feature, but I am a simple man.
Hehe.
