Auto Grant Slot

Post by WGI » 2003-07-20 20:28

Hi,

since a lot of hubs are going up and down and up and down many times, and sometimes often too, it would be nice if you can allow a slot to a specific user at any time. Like the already implemented feature 'grant a slot' only permanently to my friends whom I always grant a slot.
I'm not at my PC constantly and then my friends can't get a slot until I'm back...

Cheers,

Naturally it shouldn't affect the number of slots you have for all other users.

Agree, it should be an option to autogrant users in "favorite users" (which today is completely worthless).

Honestly, is anyone here using "favorite users" ? It has NO functionality!

Suggestions:

1. Add a description field so you atleast can write down why you added the user. (lotsa sci-fi, fast connection, school mate etc.)

2. Add an autogrant slot option.

3. Add a "leave msg an pm when user enters the hub"-feature :)

I like that description idea.

And some mods like BCDC and CZDC allow that auto-granting

They must be old because I didn't see them when I checked. Too be honest I didn't read them all either...

But so many requests for auto granting...
why haven't it been implemented already?

That's what Search is for.

I guess you'll never know, unless you read them. ;)

Search, hmm... Yes I've seen you saying that to a lot of people...
It's for me to choose not for you to tell. IMHO.

Now I have read them and STILL doesn't know why
it hasn't been implemented. They didn't say! But I'm obviously
not alone requesting this.

The user named something with "President" had a good argument
FOR auto granting a slot to a friend but no one said anything
why not...
There where even a hack offered with this feature... I prefer the
'real deal'.

There is a need for this feature. If people want it why
not implement it? It's not an "abuse friendly" feature either...
It's up to me to grant AND upload does slow download a bit, at least my ADSL line...

Cheers,
WGI

I'm not promoting it particuarly hard, Sarf and Cologic both do a better job. I put features in my client, and then I send patches to Arne if appropriate. All the Todd references in the changelog are me.

If you want auto-granting, CZDC does it the same way and it's easily findable.

My mod is on my share, but the only public hub I'm in - the DCDev Public - doesn't allow non-registered users to download, search, or PM (being a chat hub for development purposes and all).

Like Lazarus, my old post resurfaces. I guess since you referenced me, after months of resting, I take the podium to once again champion another of my unpopular req's. (How's the UL limiter coming?) ;)

I still don't know why it hasn't been implemented even after re-reading it and all the other threads... :)

Rewriting the "favorite users" section shouldn't be TOO bad, as it's useless... :) And especially if Arne will take ur version of the source... Gargy, I say we have a winner. Force Arne to buckle to the will of his users! Or at least ask politely on our behalf.

Me neither... So it must be they don't see the use of the function, I guess.
Not even after the request comes up time and time again...

The grant a slot code is already written in DC++. You would basicly need
---> IF FavUser is in hub THEN is FavUser connected ELSE grant
FavUser a slot ENDIF <---
(and check every 8? min. when FavUser looses his slot...)

Can we get this? "Pretty please with sugar on top."

Well, my upload limiter is working just fine, and I recently extened it (but not tested it) to deal with compressed blocks - a feature that's been in the DC++ source since 0.22. That same code is in DC++k and BCDC.

Arne has rejected it as a feature of DC++ proper. Even Jon Hess, who put it into NMDC Mac, 2.0, and 2.01, removed upload (and download) limiting from 2.02 (currently being tested).

I asked, when I said I sent the patch, and he didn't like the way I did the patch. If the other contribution (by Saurod) doesn't get in, I'll try re-formulating the way Favorite users are stored, and improve my patch to the point where Arne might take it.

WGI, lay off the pseudocode, please.

Did you understand it? Then mission accomplished!
It's easy in theory... Don't want any more miss-
understandings like with "saving windowpositions"...

Would you draw a diagram for your mechanic telling him how to fix your car?

Describing a feature is a much different beast than trying to tell a programmer how to implement a feature. ;)

(Especially since I've already written the code for this... months ago).
