Search For Alternatives on Directories

Post by GeorgiePorgie » 2003-06-29 18:20

Usecase: downloading large files split into many .rar files encapsulated in a single directory.

Current problem: User currently has to go through all files one by one and right click each to find a number of alternate sources. The user also has to adhere to the search spam rules of the particular hub he/she is in, i.e. wait for say 10 seconds between each search. This often takes up a large part of the evening

Solution: Automate this process by adding a right click option on the directory level containing "search for alternatives". This would then go off and search for all entries in the directory at set time increments (set in the options pane), say set to 10 seconds between each search. The user can then go off and have his/her tea. :D

Downfalls:
I can see that this may lead to an small increase in traffic to the hubs, but should be nowhere as bad as if this kind of autoamated search was carried out periodically, it would simply be a one shot operation. The client could also be limited from carrying out any further searches until the complete operation is completed or aborted by the user (if he/she becomes impatient)
