Download/upload speed limit

Post by eddanx » 2003-05-13 08:06

I was just wondering if it is possible to implement a download/upload speed limit. Often I want to keep DC++ open while surfing the net or reading my email - but because uploads/downloads in DC++ often use all my bandwidth, the surfing goes too slow.. So I close DC, which is not really want I want. If I could set e.g. download limit to 50k/s of my total 60k/s I would have enough to do normal surfing.

I of course see the drawback: People can set max limit to 1k/s for upload if they don't want people to download from them, but if people want to be idiots - let them.

Hope this isn't a dupe request - searched through the forums for a couple of minutes and couldn't find anything.

Hmm... strange as it sounds, this has been discussed before - for your edification, here are the better results of my search for "upload and limit" :

Upload limiting is implemented in DC++k, CZDC++ and BCDC++, as far as I know. Yes, they are modified clients, no, they may not be as stable as DC++, but arnetheduck has, on several occasions said that he will probably never implement upload limiting in his client due to the possibility of abuse and thus the probable ban of DC++ that will happen.
