Post by -EViLBaSTaRD- » 2003-04-01 16:00

 Why dosent DC (all clients even the ones from hell) have proxy for connecting to hubs? okay I know that it wouldnt be called DC it would hafta be called DPC. Is it at all possible to code as such? Would it work? Does a client like that exist? <--(mabey I missed something) I wanna know cause I want try to code one and if its on the next to impossible side then I will be wasting many hours days or years trying.

Did you see the SOCKS settings? That's a proxy.

No HTTP proxies are supported in DC++ yet. Just active/passive/socks5.

soks5 proxy for server, direct for download

Post by _RZMX_ » 2003-04-04 07:05

yes, the problem is the usage of the SOCKS proxy itself. DC++ client uses the proxy for connecting to the remote server but for any other downloads it should use a direct connection if possible. Of, course you should have a valid internet address that is not created through NAT or something else... The reason is that anonymous socks proxies are hard to find and when you find them, they are sa goddam slow. I really do not need speed for userinfo and chat if you know what I mean.

-- Can this trick be implemented in DC++ future versions ?

If my saying seems stupid, feel free to tell me why, in a nice way if possible

 Ive been playing with the socks5 proxy and most of em are so slow or dont work properly (Ive had some that will log on to a hub but wont download anything even lists) The only practicle thing I can think of that its good for is to get back on a hub that youve been kicked off and ask em why. (some configurations may not apply like setting up your own private socks) Are http proxies faster on average or have I just got to look harder for a faster socks? Will dc support http ever or is there something about http that sux when used in fileshare downloads?

Well, all the open proxies you're using are likely abused by spammers, and are usually located in countries where there are incompetent admins (hence your ability to use them). I wouldn't expect much in the way of speed.
