share folders for certain hubs or users
hello all,
i'm new here but looked to the topics but can't find a topic about sharing stuff.
i have like different stuff from movies to games from music to programms. In some hubs i only want to share my games and programm others i only want to share my movies. i'm dutch so i want to say like i want to share my dutch movies only in this dutch hub.
can there be a feature build in?
so to be short. Folders you share wil have tabs like: (right mouse button)
1. all hubs (marker to select default wen added into shared files)
2. only favorite hubs (marker to select)
3. only favorite users (marker to select)
4 specified hubs (this one would have some kind of window with the hubs and a marker to select)
thnx in advanced
Ewart ten Brink
P.S. i think this would also help with persons not sharing porn on hubs where it is forbidden. or persons having there own group of sharing in there own hub without others. but the chat would be open for every one

Really!? I can't see why this must have anything to do with the protocol. To me, this sounds like something that could be controlled purely by the client, pre-protocol datalayer. If not, please explain how come.Different shares on different hubs has been discussed about a million times. It simply can't be done with the current protocol, due to technical reasons. A new protocol, ADC, is under development, so this feature may be a reality in the future.

I'm going to assume you are also completely new to searching, since we get this question about 2-3 times a week. Please take a moment and look around....schoonmoeder wrote:i'm new here but looked to the topics but can't find a topic about sharing stuff.
PseudonympH, I'm aware of that, but the way I see it this feature wouldn't primarily be to prevent users from seeing certain elements of the share but more to clean up your share and keep it in line with what the hubs specializes in, so I don't see nickfaking as a problem here (by the way, if a user wants to see your share for a hub the user can't access, he/she would have to fake a nick that is found in that hub, right? And he/she can't get one of these nicks because he/she can't get in to that hub, right?).
As of now, my share contain movies, music, installationfiles, cd-images etc. If I want a mp3 and enter a mp3-hub, I'm sharing all of these things to the hub users. I'm pretty sure that's the case with most of the other users as well, they also share many things other than mp3. Therefore, in this mp3 hub, you can't find more mp3's and less of everything else than in any other hub; the idea of specialized hubs doesn't work.
If DC++ could have a special share for a certain hub, when a user searches, the client checks which hub or hubs the user is in and returns results from the correct share. When a user wants to download your share, DC++ does the same thing and also merge shares if the user is found in more than one hub.
Ofcourse this wouldn't be an optimal solution but the advantage of having this feature would compensate for the potential issues.
The issues I can think of right now is:
If two different users in two different hubs have the same nick.
If one user uses different nicks in different hubs.
Potentially heavy load on system if DC++ searches for the user in the hubs every time someone make a search.
