Autofill Active IP in settings

Post by puja399 » 2004-12-02 22:40

I am on dial-up and dyanamic IP. Everytime I start DC++, I have to do ipconfig and fill the Active IP textbox in settings. Can't DC++ do it automatically? It would be a nice feature then. Thanks.

Get yourself a dynamic name from www.dyndns.org and put that into the IP field. make sure to get a dynamic host name updating program too.

Thanks for reply. Your solution worked fine but wouldn't it be better it DC++ could get the current IP of the user and put it automatically in settings at startup? Because then the users won't have to depend on any third party software or websites. After all, other P2P clients like kazaa, emule, limewire, bittorrent etc. don't have this problem with dynamic IPs.

DC++ tries to guess your IP. Its not so simple if you are behind a NAT. But if you are not, then dc++ will probably guess right 99% of the time (probably more). DC++ will guess if you leave the ip-entry empty. DC++ also supports the UserIP-extension and (userip2) which allows the hub to send the ip it thinks you use to you and use it. (It can be enabled in advanced-page in settings). For this to work, the server has to support userip (hubsoftware). DC++ also supports UPnP which can open ports automaticly.

<rant>dc++ also supports blah blahg....</rant>

not much more can be done on this issue than dc++ already supports.
Everyone is supposed to download from the hubs, - I don´t know why, but I never do anymore.
