Manual connect address

Post by deesee++ » 2004-11-21 00:56

This feature was dropped in .667 when the hublist dropdown was added to the public hubs frame. (dropbox is great btw, hope bandwidth isn't a prob)

I miss being able to simply copy/paste/connect to hubs.. I often used this to share hub addresses with friends over IM.
It is still possible to create a new favorite hub, enter the ip and connect to it. It just frustrates me to have to do that.. after being spoiled with the much quicker manual connect address.

I can't be the only one who found this feature terribly useful...

because i was bored, and i know devs LOVE photoshop mock-ups..
i made this example of how i believe the feature could be reinroduced.

I figured since configuring the hublist dropbox can be done in settings/download, and it most likely isn't done on a regular basis, the config button wasn't nessisary.
DC currently splits each input field equally across the window.. perhaps (if its a simple thing to do) the "filter" input could be locked to say 25% of the window .. leaving more room for the address/hublist fields. filtering is typically done with only one or 2 keywords.

Any thoughts on this?

You spent $MINUTES creating a mockup GUI and didn't bother peeking into the File menu and looking at the fourth entry, or typing Ctrl-Q? Wow.

I have a low resolution on the pc DC runs on, so 3 input boxes plus some buttons wouldn't fit, I like the ctrl+q way, although there should be a button in the main menu bar, right next to the public hub list button

Having the manual connect in the public hublist window is redundant. The only time you're likely to enter in a manual address, is when another user tells you about one. That being the case, you don't need to open up the public hublist window, which puts more strain on the public hublist servers. The quick connect is a much more efficient way to enter in a hub address and connect.

This feature request is like those who must have a "Go" buttom in Internet Explorer in order to start surfing. Just hit enter!!

It caches each list in session, so it's not deliberately wasteful of bandwidth.
