Ability to minimize DC++ when loading

Post by badradiation » 2004-08-23 11:43

When DC++ loads, as I'm sure you're all familiar, it has a bar that reads "Loading DC++, please wait...(whatever it's doing here)." What aggravates me is that I can't minimize or even move this bar while it's loading; is it possible, perhaps, to include that feature in the next version? (Or am I being a bafoon and there's already a way to do what I want?)

You should only see this message for ~5 seconds, why is that a problem? How long are you seeing it for (don't estimate... take out a watch and time it) ?

Currently, there is no way to hide this startup message.

First, the loading bar reads, "Loading DC++, please wait...(Hash Database)" for 20 seconds. Following, it says, "Loading DC++, please wait...(Shared Files)," taking up the majority of the wait-time, 5 minutes and 40 seconds.

Total time: 6 minutes.

A far cry from the five seconds it's supposed to take. My computer is above the minimum requirements for this program; my hard drive's defragmented (I did it yesterday, in fact); 512 ram; windows xp.

Am I the only one having this issue?

You using DC++ 0.4032 ?
You sharing drives that are networked ?
How much are you sharing?

I'm sharing ~95GB locally and it really only takes a few seconds for DC++ to start up.

0.4032 I'm using and sharing 10 GB. My drives are not networked; they're right inside my computer and only this computer may access them.

10GB? local?! there is something really wrong with your system, it seems.

I share ~700GB, mostly from network drives, and it takes me about 3-4 minutes to load (BC)DC++.
and I have a slow system, compared to most.

(you can try BCDC++ though (find it on google), it will make the bar 70% transparent so you can at least view through it.)

Yeah; though my computer meets the minimum standards, it is by no means fast. It's got a few years on it - I really wouldn't be surprised if it's got serious problems. :P

Where do you see minimum requirements?

You can create a shortcut to start DC++ and set its properties to be minimized, that's the best solution to your problem.

Hm. I suppose I just assumed my computer was fast enough.

Well, I'm not aware of specs anywhere, so I thought I'd ask.

Maybe arnetheduck pushed them out while I wasn't looking. ;)
