Stop Button

Post by sakej » 2004-07-17 08:27

It's a goog idea to put stop button near search button, couse sometimes when there is too many files DC will hang out.

No, it's not. It's pointless GUI bloat.

This should be fixed instead.

maybe an option to define max number of results?

edit:
and I know it's not possible to do this in a good way... it will only be a gui thing.. but hey.. thats the point.. to stop the gui from hanging and/or to stop a massive amount of results from bugging the user..

Well, I know Gargoyle has been campaigning against superfluous options lately...
to stop the gui from hanging
Ideally, this wouldn't happen even with rapidly arriving search results, though I'm unsure how to avoid it (perhaps one could buffer incoming results and display them at some maximum rate). The two suggestions in this thread to work around this are ugly kludges.
to stop a massive amount of results from bugging the user
Why should a massive amount of search results bug the user? He can sort and filter (by selecting a large number and removing them) reasonably ably. Moreover, a search that broad likely needs to be clarified anyway to achieve utility.
