When searching, choosing connections

How about when searching, you can pick At Least: (connection). IE At Least DSL. That way, it'd be a way to make sure you're download speeds will be the highest possible.

The Connection-field is not validated in anyway in any standard format in DC. They are utterly useless. I don't think it will get into DC++ unless someonelse then arne codes it (i would be suprised if he spent time on it). It would be better to try to use the ipcolumn instead and try to derive the speed from ip-series.
