About Keep duplicate files in file list

Post by sumosi2 » 2006-06-06 18:33

Hi, i have a thing i would like you to fix (maybe in
the next DC++ version) or something.. It is about the
aternative Keep duplicate files in your file list. I
would like you to make it default unmarked, off.
Since many do not fix this in the settings it would
be a simple fix to make it easier to download.. (i
hate when you get same file getting up in search but
from the same user.). I hope you understand what i
mean and that you will fix it asap! /thanks! :?

Couldn't just arnetheduck or someone else just try to make a version with the setting "Keep Duplicate files in file list" off and then we can see how many who will switch it on.. Probably a few and then the search will be much easier...

That's unlikely unless you manage to convince him or another developer of the merit of your proposal, which you don't seem to have done.

This isn't clear to me at all. Where do you get multiple instances of the same file from a user?

I have quite an oposite approach to this metter...

I'm against turning it off. There are some (maybe rare) cases when there are two same files but both are importent part of it's content (like some freeware app installer for example). If You turned off it's quite impossible to quess witch file is missing and why someone is sharing "damaged" stuff.

Anyway if I remember corectly DC++ is refusing to download to put two same files into queue and it's (imho) very iritating in some rare situations.

Bacause of those two reasons I can naver be 100% sure if downloaded content is exactly the same as shared by the user (that's why compressing stuff into single files is good). :/

DC++ will only not queue a file if it named exactly the same as another file that is in the same folder in the queue.
