ID3 search for audio Files. Possible?

Post by TOR » 2006-01-27 12:01

Is possible to split the audio file and the ID3 when indexing, to make posible searching for music if the file name does not have a good description? (eg:Track1.mp3)

Don't care if hashing takes longer. Just want to find things

I would have liked this when I initially started to use DC++, but:
  • It's not something we can support on NMDC hubs
  • It's tied to a specific file type, and perhaps may encourage people to trade audio files they shouldn't. I don't think this is a good precedent.
  • ID3 (v1, v2.*.*) tags are hard to get right. A number of applications don't do it correctly, and to have DC++ handle them correctly would be a big pain. (Think non-Roman languages.)
If you want to see past threads on this subject, search for "meta-information" (and similar).

And as a short comment. ID3 tags (depending on version) can be very complicated. You can infact have a pictures as part of the id3-tag. ;))
Everyone is supposed to download from the hubs, - I don´t know why, but I never do anymore.
