Post by makecake » 2005-11-30 10:57

How about a feature to search within downloaded filelists, I know I would love it =)

Oh if that is the case I completly misunderstood it... I've made my own tool for this...

Either of us could be right, the wording is ambiguous. He may follow-up and clarify, but that doesn't always happen. (And I missed your interpretation when reading it initially.)

I think you understood what he meant Garg, but seriously if you have as many filelists downloaded as I have without a database to go with it to remember from who, why and where it was downloaded, it's pretty useless, I don't think DC++ should incorporate this feature, since in my opinion it'll only be useful if db and that stuff was the case, and seriously I thought only paranoid people like me would want that...

Should be able to do it only by comparing Name of user from search results, with names of filelist's it's previsously received. You'll have to store the Stated share size of this filelist, and check to see if it changed (re-download), or the same (match queue on existing one) :)

Hmm? You seem to be talking on a tangent, about downloading file lists only when they've been updated. Did I or Carrya mention that? :? There are issues to searching file lists on disk, but I think I outlined all of my concerns in the bug...

well I actually just always overwrite filelists with the most recent filelist downloaded from a person with that nick in the same hub, potentionally that could result in thinking two users sharing the same nick is the same (they might not be). In my oppinion the biggest issue with searching filelists already download is that it might not be useful at all if you can't find the user again, and if you keep storing filelists it takes like forever (I know because I actually do this sometimes now).

sorry, didn't find it in the request tracker, seems you know what I mean Gargoyle, but I understand now that it wouldn't be ideal for everyone, but I never really have too many filelists and quite often I whish for a feature like that =)

oh, and since I find the bug tracker kinda cryptic I'll just go ahead and ask here, don't answer if you don't want to, but have anyone requested a function to stop a search? Because if you accidentaly search for something short and simple like "it" you often get thousands of hits and dc locks up until everything is found, which usually takes several minutes, and a simple button for stopping the search would remedy this, if it's not in there, could you put it in there for me? =)

Is the Search button really that confusing?

The other way to look at your feature is to realize that DC++ could behave better when getting tons of search results. :)

ullner: I'd say the whole bugzilla thingy is very confusing when you've never seen a page like it before, but I'll try to figure out what everything is so I won't bother you unnecessarily again

Hi!

Well I don't know if this is what's being asked in this topic, but I'm getting back to DC and this is something that I think it would be useful.. (I know, I can write my own client, but I think that this can be useful for many people ;))

Ok, what I really want is something like an "offline" hub search.
Simply what it should do, was to grab all filelists from the users in the hub and perform a search in each filelist and showing the results (off course without free slots and that, since it doesn't have that info..).
(When I say “offlineâ€
