DCH++ has been abandoned, this forum serves mainly as an archive

Why only DCH++ ? What about other hub softs ?

Post by DirtyFinger » 2003-01-04 10:03

There are plenty of others like

PtokaX (windows) http://ptokax.sourceforge.net/
y.a.b.b.a http://www.disconova.com/utu/acdchub/
openDcHub (linux) http://opendchub.sourceforge.net/
shastahHub (java) http://www.lwave.ca/DCHub/
SbSoftEA
ASH

I myself favor the PtokaX hub which is very fast (1200 users tested), has major rule implementation (slots'n'share) and a working, excellent script engine implemented.
I guess no one knows the language LUA-script :) , but it's easy to learn, very flexible, incredibly fast and powerful.
I'm currently writing scripts in lua and preliminary op-bots (my Dirtybot) should be out soon.
Neomodus sucks.
The client is terrible.
The hub software is dreadful.
The only thing worse is the protocol.
And then they had to top it by choosing vbs for scripting.
I still marvel at the fact that sharing with Direct Connect turned out so good.

Obviously because this is my forum and I'm developing dch++...there's a general Hubs and scripts forum for those that want to talk about other hubs and scripts so...

What I don't like about ptotax for example is that it's closed source...(i haven't found any sources anyway), but they're still using sourceforge that was created for open-source projects...

Everyone is supposed to download from the hubs, - I don´t know why, but I never do anymore.

and i agree... such projects should not be supported by sf.net and might not fullfill the terms to be hosted there. (haven't read the rules for a while so i can't say for sure)

oops, hehe obviously my fingers were faster than my brain this time.
ok, didn't know it was a local project but i might have thought of it.

and PtokaX originally planned it to be open source but now he changed his mind.
mumbles something about competition between hubsoft writers and so on.
Well, it's his project even though i'd like to have a go at his piece.
And since i was dragged to his vincinity and warmed myself up for Lua i guess i'll stay.

What script language does dch++ support ?

Lets keep this forum as an dch++ and dc++ forum only. Other hubsoft-developers can get their own forums. I would not like to have my hubsoft in a forum in which I cannot moderate. And I don't think arne would like to have like 20 'comrades' aka 'competitiors' as a moderators in his forum.... *S*

have you thought about implementing perl scripting instead of (or aswell as) LUA?

it's so much more powerful, and works great in open dc hub.. ?

nope, maintaining one script language is enough for me...someone else might though, when / if I make the hub public...
(powerful, but not very resource effective)
