How to make you own hublist

Post by Marvin » 2003-05-28 23:30

  1. Open one
  2. Look at the way it is coded
  3. Make a script/program to parse it the way you want / Create your own from scratch + make a program to ping the hubs to keep it current
  4. Publish it
This howto was written at a time I should be sleeping, and has not be tested. You might turn bald / explode / warp to uncharted planet if you follow it. To be safe, do it reverse with closed eyes (or not).

PS : 5. Don't panicâ„¢

Your own public hublist

Post by Sid » 2003-05-31 23:52

you want to run a hublist? well i have created software to do this, its called DC Hublist Server. You need an http server localy or an ftp and http server remotely to serve the list. The current version 2.5 has some major bugs in it right now but im in the final stages of testing v2.6 that is much more reliable. If you have any questions you can email me.

It may be that the software doesn't work with the Chinese version of XP.

If you're running a list server, you should really have the technical prowess to code it yourself (or find one yourself). Otherwise when something goes wrong, you'll be screwed.

Well, it seems that you'd need 3/4/5 segments to it:

1. registration server
2. hub pinger
3. list-creation daemon
4. web server (duh)
5. web front-end for doing nifty hublist.org-esque things

Sandos might be able to help you with some of them, his list had linux (or bsd) based pinger and registration servers.

Doesn't www.hublist.org already do this?

Example: Slovenian hubs

My bad, Sandos has his available: https://sourceforge.net/projects/dc2/

It may only be in CVS at the moment, I believe he stated such a thing.

PS - seems that http://www.1stleg.com/ has one too.

Share and Enjoy!

Since Sid (the person behind Imperialnet) seems to be a VB person, I'd guess that his runs under Windows... looked at it yet?

Hub list server

Post by Sid » 2003-08-08 04:17

Sorry guys i have been in hell for a week.

There is a problem with my hublist server, the setup program is the one packaged with VB 6 and its a pice of crap so im looking for a new packager. I am also going to rebuild the current version with a few more bug fixes and then its on to a new version with more features. Anyway alot of you have asked about a linux server and well i would code one in java but i dont know enough about sockets in java so im stuck. Anyway the hublist server is eazy to create and you can probably do it with a php script directly on a linux server or just create a perl script to do the same thing. Check out the VB source for ideas if you get stuck.

Hope this helps
