LinuxDC++ cannot connect to hub but valknut etc. can

Post by mot » 2006-12-14 09:59

hello,
I have installed LinuxDC++ on my ubuntu6.06 box, because it was the best way to get it look like windows dc++.
in my network we have two hubs, one is runnig obendchub 0.7.14, the other 0.7.15.
i can connect to the 15 but not to the 14.
both have quite the same (default) configs.
this ist strange, because with valknut I can connect both.
message from the 14 is:
*** Connecting
*** Connected
<Hub> This hub is running version 0.7.14 of Open DC Hub.
*** Connect failed: Connection closed
for a part of a second I can see all users of the hub, but then the connection closed message appears.
both hubs run on port 4444, so it should not be a problem with the routers port forwarding.
hub ip's are:
0.7.14: x.y.123.222
0.7.15: x.y.234.111
my client ip is: x.y.123.22
so i'm in the same segment like 14 hub.
14 hub also is located behind a router, but as an DMZ.
any ideas?

The problem is that opendchub 7.14 cannot handle the new client's connection type strings. Try to set it to '5' on your client or better upgrade the hubsoftware to 7.15 (since all of your users with DC++ 0.68+ and based clients are also cannot connect with the default setting).

perfect!
thanks. now it works. I installed version 0.7.15 and now all is fine.
I do not know what you mean with
Try to set it to '5' on your client...
...could not find any setting. does not matter.
had a little trouble to compile, because in ubuntu repositories only v14 is available. but after installing make, gcc... and set some symbolic links for some perl libraries it works.
again, thanks a lot.

I meant the setting now called Line speed in DC++ 0.68+ and the parameter is a number. In pre 0.68 versions it was called Connection type and could be set as 28.8k, DSL, LAN(T1),...
The old opendchub cannot handle the new connection type strings. The trick is to set it to '5' (what begins the same as one of the older available parameters - '56k')

ok, thanks a lot for this detailed information.
could not imagine that this option can cause such behavior. I thought it's only for connection speed information to the other users.
thanks and good night.
