Mac DC++ and Tags

Post by highb23 » 2006-09-03 19:54

Whenever I try to connect to my local private hub i get a message that says, "Turn on your tags!!"

Q: What are "tags" and how do I turn them on?

I know that the hub is up and running because my roommate's are using as I type. I really hope that it's a fixable problem and not just the fact that Mac clients suck ass.

Thanks for any help you can give me!

P.S. I'm Running Mac DC++. I had it working about four months ago with absolutely no problems.

Don't know how to explain what a tag is other than it's text information sent to the hub from your client and it contains details of what client/settings you are using. For example: <++ V:0.674,M:A,H:1/1/0,S:5>

This fellow is using version 0.674 of DC++, is in active mode, is in one hub as an unregistered user and one hub as a registered user, and has 5 slots open.

So you simply need to enable the tag in your client, it should be in the client's settings somewhere. There's also a possibility that your particular client doesn't have an option to enable tags. Am not familiar with Mac clients so I don't know. if you can't find that option to enable tags seek out that clients forum, or try another mac client. Shakespeer is an alternative mac client that springs to mind. Also someone else might be able to help you further. Hopefully this will serve as initial information, might not make a lot of sense, am tired.

BTW you might want to be more specific about the client and version you are using, since I don't think 'Mac DC++' exists. :?

thanks for the reply, now i know what i'm dealing with. I checked to figure out what client i'm using and all i can find is
Mac DC++: version 1.1.0
There isn't anything that allows me to enable my tags but under Preferences there are options for increasing the nuber of slots, chosing active or passive mode but not where i'm a registered user... I tried to download Shakespeer but when i click on it to open it will pop up in my toolbar for a split second and then disapear. any help with getting shakespeer to work would be appriciated too.

That is the mac version of the original Direct Connect client. It does not have the DC++ style tag ( <++ V:0.694,M:A, etc > ). Look up shakespeer or valknut for an up to date Mac alternative.

shakespeer is your best bet, I have a few mac users on my hub and they are a pain in the arse mainly because no one seems to make a good mac client (well at least one we have found that works well out side of shakespeer). If you cant get shakespeer to work (make sure you are installing it correctly) you can talk to the person in charge of the hub and see about disabling tag checks (if they don’t agree see about getting a separate user profile made up with all the same rules as standard users but with bypass client tag check enabled so you can get around the tag check).

It's pretty sad that Shakespeer has to identify itself as DC++ to get accepted into hubs...

It's pretty sad that acceptance from Hubowners/Op's is a must in itself.
