I'm starting this thread because no one has been able to help me in my work area.
How does one create a DNS Address on a local area network.
Basicly a name to which a user connects. This name is linked to your IP address thus eliminating the need for an hard to remember address like 196.186.245.589.
This also helps people to connect to you when you have a dynamic address. As the name never changes.
The only programs I have been able to find which allow this are for the internet and not compatible for use on lan.
Please help.
DNS for LAN

Actually, you can set a no-ip dns (for example) to your internal IP. I havn't tried it myself, but others claim it works anyway. The problem might be if you need to update the IP automatically, i don't know if there are updaters that do that. However, you realise the user would still require internet access in order to resolve the dns? That one is harder to get around.

Re: DNS for LAN
Why do you need to? If you have Windows File Sharing enabled, the computer should register its name with the local master browser... I connect to my test hub using its windows computer name all the time...MagicShroom wrote:How does one create a DNS Address on a local area network.
