DCQueryNet - Where did it go?

Post by TasMan » 2003-01-09 12:45

Like the title says, anybody know whatever happened to DCQueryNet? It used to be at this address

http://dcquerynet.no-ip.com

but it seems it no longer exists. Did the address change? Or maybe Tang just quit the project?

It really did, but I imagine it uses alot of bandwidth.

No, don't visit http://euphio.servehttp.com/.. it's down for now anyway.

I'm posting because I'm working on a new version of DCQueryNet.. It's now just DCQuery (without the networking part). I will post more about this later in a more noticable forum, but for now I'll give you a little tease.

DCQuery will allow you to search any hub that's registered on http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net/Publi ... config.bz2. You enter your search criteria and then select the hubs you wish to search. You can search as many hubs as you need without connecting to them until you find what you were looking for.

I've simplified the process by removing the static connections to hubs and have focused more on the actuall search aspect of it this time.

I've written in several ways for hubowners to remove their hubs from DCQuerys list of searchable hubs, so if a hubowner is annoyed with searches he can stop the searching completely.

But that's all for now.. It's a completely different system written from the ground up (it's in a different language now, so it had to be fresh). And since it can run on any hosting service -- providing they have the proper config -- there will be much more bandwidth available.

Interesting, Im playing around with non-blocking stuff in linux, and this sounds pretty much like an idea I had, where I want to run a searchbot as a cgi.
