I tried upgrading my copy of BCDC++ v0.403b when the v0.4032 first came out and I lost nearly 3GB of partial downloads when I did. I learnt the hard way that v0.4032 couldn't resume partial downloads started with earlier versions.
Is there any way of upgrading to a version later than v0.403b without it being a brand new install? ie. I really don't wanna lose 3GB of downloads again just coz I thought I would be doing myself a favour by upgrading to a supposedly better version of the program.
Upgrading past v0.403b - how to without losing partial d/ls?

You should always read the changelog before upgrading, there information about what is known to not be backward-compatible is written.
for example.

This update will change all your config files and queues, and it is
very probable that you won't be able to revert back to an older version
once the update has been done!!!
Also, finish your queue file before upgrading if you care for your
international filenames in it - they will not be correctly converted.

Everyone is supposed to download from the hubs, - I don´t know why, but I never do anymore.
