automatic hub reconnecting after connection lost

Post by lkomenda » 2004-09-07 04:43

Hi! My network sometimest dies at night and when I look at my status at the morning i'm disconnected from all hubs. What a lost of precious dl time! I'm wondering if there is any possibility to set dc++ to auto reconnect to the hubs after connection lost. Any commends? Any settings?

"network sometimes dies". You mean you loose your ip lease? Perhaps you could set your computer to reboot if that happens, and set DC++ to autostart.

Yes I loose my IP. Maybe system restart is the solution, but i's a hordcore one. I thoght dc++ has the feature of some other p2p clients, and it's possible to keep connecting to hubs if disconnected (disconnected by lan restart).

DC++ does reconnect automatically, unless it detected the word "banned" in the last connection.

If you leave DC++ open, doesn't it show *** Connecting to ... in the window every couple minutes?

well Don't know for what reason but DC++ doesnt reconnect...after I lose the connection. I have to manually reconnect it each time - and I hate it.
I've taken into considerarion the ban possibility - I had no bans at that time.I run the 0.4032 version. In the dialog box it displays - connection reset by server

I have the same problem with my ISP, I lose the connection at night sometimes but DC++ works exactly like Gargoyle say's. It reconnects if the connection gets back up. One thing you could try is a connection manager like Paraben's Connection Manager. Otherwise there's not much you can do but talk to your ISP and ask them why the connection is "unstable".

So dekadance, what's the answer to this question:

Yes or no. It's simple.

To Gargoyle: The answer is NO, it appears only at the beginning of the connection. This happens with my favourite hubs.

That's very odd. DC++ will try to reconnect every 2-3 minutes - I mentioned the only circumstance in which it wouldn't - if it saw "banned" when connecting.

Are you using DC++, or a derivative/variant of it?

I use oDC v.04032 and I think I have a network problem. I've noticed in the icon notificating connection(LAN) that it was disconnected("disconnected...trying to acquire ip") so it's a network problem...Yet my Dc++ doesn't display "connecting too" every 2-3 min. as you said, and I think I have the lates version:) So maybe I should reinstall it bcause I've intalled over the same folder where I previously had Opera's DC 5.31.

That's not a valid oDC version: http://gempond.com/odc/

Also, this is the DC++ forum, so if you want support, make sure you're using DC++. There are numerous issues that DC++ derivatives have that DC++ itself does not.
