Jbyrd, I disagree with this: it should be total upload speed, not just upload speeds to individual users. As a user, why would I care about the upload capacity of another user? They might care but, it's not important to me. What is important to me is the download speed I am likely to get if connecte...

Personally I like the fact that Arne resists attempts to make DC++ an everything but the kitchen sink app. DC++ is NOT an MP3 player. That function has been done, and done well in countless other applications. DC++ IS a app. to connect to hubs, download filelists, search for files and share. Bloatwa...

Well it's a bit better then that.... Since the traffic is encrypted anyone intercepting it (ISP's) would have a helluva time trying to figure out what type of data was being transmitted. With DC all they have to do is READ the packets for protocol messages and re-assemble them for downloads. The har...

1. command for the hub owner to hide his nick from the user list. You realize that you won't be able to download anything from DC++ users, right? It drops connections from users that are offline. Actually dropping the connection is an option which can be turned off. The real issue is that DC++ won'...

Oh well, yes you can connect to multiple hubs and maybe get alot of sources in DC aswell, but the drawback is that the network isnt connected (between hubs). It's all possible, in fact, it is exactly how I am set up, I connect to a No-IP address that points to my IP which routes to this PC. I do it that way so I know when no-ip is down.... You WILL have problems with ACTIVE searches on your hub because the IP's are different, it's easy to fix though, run...

I was rather hoping to find someone who knew about it or at least knew enough of how DC++ works to figure out how they did it. You did. If there's a REAL exploit GargoyleMT knows enought o find and help stomp it out. But, as he said, you'll have to provide some real evidence that an exploit exists....

The reason for using a master was apparently to avoid complexity; given that a masterless topology is ideal, if one begins to approach its complexity anyway with patches to the master approach, it seems one should probably reconsider having masters. I'm not sure how far towards that point a seconda...

I think you have an excellent point about how much is too much. 50,000 users chatting at once would be a scrolling nightmare... One thing I'd add to the master Slave concept is the requirement for a redundant MASTER. A Primary MASTER and a Secondary MASTER. All SLAVES would know both addresses. The ...

If we accept the fact that multi-source downloads will do the following: 1. Reduce the number of available slots in the short term (as 1 downloader can now occupy slots on many available uploaders) 2. Reduce the length of time that a downloader requires a slot (as the downloader is getting the file ...

Actually, multihub would still be an improvement the advantages of which would grow roughly linearly with the number of hubs involved, is thus capable of handling greater numbers of users. Which is why I said I didn't see an advantage to RS over a functional Multi-Hub Linking. See, next time it mig...

So then the idea of the RS is to create a single destination for the hub to send a string that must be distributed to 'n' clients. The modification to the client is to facilitate that Hub "X" has split it's upstream traffic onto multiple IP's, the one used to connect to the hub and 'n' potential Rel...

If multi-hub linking could address this issue then what are the requirements? I think most of this could be done in modifications to the Hub software alone. If mutli-hub protocol extensions were used by different hubs then linking a DCH++-->PkotaX-->OpenDC--->SDCH-->etc should be possible. The users...
