what they/you fail to understand is that you cannot trust the client to send a "correct" hash,
why would a cheater confess to cheating instead of sending a normal dc++'s MD5sum?

since 0.181 the hostname is converted to an IP by dc++

so hostnames will never get sent...
... this does mean however that you need to restart dc++ whenever your IP changes

the incoming connection sends his/her nick first,
User::Ptr& ClientManager::getUser(thatNick) is consulted
that User has a specific hub, hence we know our name
(this will give conflicts when two nicks are the same in different hubs, yes)

dc++ will refuse to accept connections from nicknames that are not in any connected hub

dctc does have an option to connect to users when they've gone offline, but (1) dc++'s will refuse the connection and (2) you cannot provide just an IP+port(+nick)

the GetNickList command is there for a reason. imho it's optional to get the NickList and OpList, so you shouldn't rely on it being sent ever.
