After experimenting, it seems that DC++ uses a Courier type font, as shown in the "incorrect" picture above. Whereas BCDC++ uses the OEM font as shown in the "correct" picture.

Note that the toggle does nothing on either.

Ah, I get you now. Although to be pedantic, you are using the Terminal font and not the System font. If you had mentioned Terminal at first, I might have clicked earlier.

you can only use "Use OEM monospaced font" which doesn't seem to do the job correctly.. Define "correctly". Shouldn't all monospace font by their very nature (monospaced!) show ASCII art in exactly the same way, albeit with a different font style? Here's a screendump so you can see what I'm talking...
